Short-term priorities:
Assessment (November 2000)
The social partners take part in the law-making process, but this dialogue needs to be made effective. Slovenia, in cooperation with the Commission, has examined its employment policy and published a document entitled "joint evaluation of the priorities of employment policy". A document on the strategic objectives for the development of the labour market up to 2006 has also been published.

Medium-term priorities:
Assessment (October 1999)
Slovenia has amended its legislation on employment and on unemployment insurance, paving the way for a more active employment policy. The joint review of employment policies together with the Commission was launched in May 1999. The health and safety act has been adopted.
Assessment (November 2000)
A new health and safety at work act has been adopted.

Following the signing of the Accession Treaty on 16 April 2003, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia acceded to the European Union on 1 May 2004.
