Motor vehicles with trailers: fire behaviour of the materials used in the internal fittings of buses and coaches (until 2014)

The aim of this directive is to harmonise the national laws on the fire behaviour of the materials used in the internal fittings of buses and coaches.

ACT

Directive 95/28/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 24 October 1995 relating to the burning behaviour of materials used in the interior construction of certain categories of motor vehicle

SUMMARY

This Directive partly implements the EC type-approval procedure laid down in Council Directive 70/156/EEC on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to the type-approval of motor vehicles and their trailers. The provisions of Directive 70/156/EEC concerning systems, components and technical units in vehicles therefore apply for the purposes of Directive 95/28/EC.

The Directive deals with the fire behaviour (flammability, combustion rate and fusion behaviour) of the materials used in category M3 buses and coaches, which carry more than twenty-two passengers.

The scope of this Directive does not cover buses and coaches for the carriage of standing passengers or for urban use.

Member States may not refuse or prohibit the EC type-approval, national type-approval, sale, registration, putting on the road or use of a vehicle/component which meets the requirements of this Directive.

This Directive is repealed by Regulation (EC) No 661/2009 from 1 November 2014.
