Short-term priorities

Assessment (November 2000)

This priority has been largely observed. A national employment plan is in place. The social dialogue has improved, particularly within industry.

Medium-term priorities

Evaluation (October 1999)

Preparations for the joint examination of employment policies are continuing in a satisfactory manner. Progress has been made concerning the alignment of legislation on equal opportunities.

Assessment (November 2000)

Progress has been made in transposing the social security acquis. Alignment has been improved in the areas of working time and collective redundancies. Legislation has been adopted on equal opportunities, gender discrimination, parental leave, remuneration, people with disabilities and public health. Initial steps have been taken to set up a state monitoring system on health and safety in the workplace.

Following the signing of the Accession Treaty on 16 April 2003, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia acceded to the European Union on 1 May 2004.
