It has applied since 20 January 2010.

BACKGROUND

Most evaluations of additives date back to the 1980s and 1990s. Their safety is now being re-evaluated in accordance with Commission Regulation (EU) No 257/2010. This process, as from 27 March 2021, includes comparable levels of transparency and confidentiality to those which apply tothe procedure for updating the EU list of approved food additives.

Depending on the outcomes of the safety re-evaluation, the European Commission may propose changes to the current usage conditions, or remove some additives from the approved list.
