Short-term priorities:

Agriculture

Assessment (November 2001)

Cyprus must continue to make progress as regards the common organisations of markets, the Integrated Administration and Control System (IACS) and setting up a paying agency. Efforts must also be continued as regards rural development and forestry and transposing the acquis on veterinary and plant health matters.

Fisheries

Assessment (November 2001)

The Cypriot fishing fleet is being reorganised. The priorities as regards inspection and control measures continue to be respected, with in particular the introduction of a fishing vessel register.

Following the signing of the Accession Treaty on 16 April 2003, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia acceded to the European Union on 1 May 2004.
