Title: Compensation for damage to tomato and pepper crops

Objective: To compensate for the losses which certain agricultural holdings growing tomatoes and peppers incurred as a result of the heavy rains in certain regions of Portugal in September and October 2002

Legal basis: Projecto de Decreto-lei - "Intempéries 2002. Moratória de operações de crédito de curto prazo"

Budget: EUR 1815658,82

Aid intensity or amount: Variable. The aid would comprise a moratorium on reimbursement of capital under certain credit operations and could reach, per hectare in disadvantaged areas, 18,4 % of the loss incurred with regard to contracts for growing tomatoes and 4,49 % for peppers and, in non-disadvantaged areas, 13,1 % (tomatoes) and 3,07 % (peppers)

Aid intensity or amount: For pilot and demonstration projects for vegetable productions: up to 100 %.

For pilot (investment) projects for zootechnic production: a maximum of 40 % (or 50 % in the less-favoured areas). For investments made by young farmers within five years after setting-up, up to 45 % (55 % in the less-favoured areas)

Duration: Three years

Compensation will be paid to cover the difference between income obtained with maize and income obtained with alternative crops and for the cost of insecticide

Budget: Up to EUR 1322129,66

Aid intensity or amount: 300 EUR/ha for the loss of revenue and 75 EUR/ha for the insecticide
