The new EUR-Lex has been open since 1 November 2004. It is the result of merging the EUR-Lex site with the CELEX database on European law.
During the launch phase of the new site, CELEX remains the research tool of reference on European law. CELEX will continue to be updated until the end of 2004.
Since opening, users’ suggestions have enabled improvements to be made; the technical problems which have affected certain aspects of the site are also being resolved. Meanwhile, various new features are now operational:
Official Journal: the links to Official Journal issues now change colour after consultation.
Legislation in force in the new languages: the site offers access to the daily editions of the Official Journal in the new languages; to the volumes already published of the Special Edition of the Official Journal, which contains the secondary legislation in force on 1 May 2004 in the nine new official languages (over 450 volumes by 15.11.2004); and to the provisional versions of the texts not yet published in the OJ (http://europa.eu.int/eur-lex/fi/accession.html)
Consolidated legislation: it is now possible to consult the consolidated texts (which integrate a basic instrument of Community legislation with its subsequent amendments and corrections in a single text.) through the Directory of legislation in force: http://eur-lex.europa.eu/fi/repert/index.htm
Search: the list of search results now offers several text formats (pdf, tiff, word, with html coming soon), which can be accessed directly. Texts can also be accessed through the bibliographic notice: selecting the ‘Text’ option allows you to see the document in html format.
Automatic redirection: users who access the main page of the Official Journal or Directory of legislation in force on the old version of the site will be automatically redirected to the corresponding pages of the new version. Access to the other pages will not be redirected to allow users to find all the information which is not yet available on the new site.
Saving of links established to the old version of EUR-Lex and to CELEX: links established according to the rules specified on the old EUR-Lex (http://europa.eu.int/eur-lex/fi/information/help/help-link.html) and on Celex (http://europa.eu/celex/htm/doc/fi/linktocelex_en.htm) will be automatically redirected to the corresponding pages or documents in the new EUR-Lex.
In order to ensure the preservations of links to the new version of EUR-Lex, we recommend establishing links following the instructions given on the site: http://eur-lex.europa.eu/fi/tools/help_syntax.htm
Next on EUR-Lex:
- Official Journal: direct access to issues prior to 1998 will be made available
- Treaties: all the treaties will soon be available in all the official languages
- Search: documents will be progressively made available in html format.
