About EU law

The European Parliament

The European Parliament, whose 732 members are directly elected by the citizens of Europe, is the co-legislator of the European Union (EU).

It has legislative and budgetary powers, which it shares with the Council, as well as a democratic supervisory role.

Its modus operandi is based on parliamentary committees reflecting its political composition. Parliament currently has seven political groups, as well as 'non-attached' members.
