Commission communication regarding the implementation of Council Regulation (EC) No 2725/2000 "Eurodac"

As provided in Council Regulation (EC) No 2725/2000(1), and in particular Article 27 thereof, the Commission hereby notifies that:
- each Member State has made the notification to the Commission in accordance with Article 27(2)(a) of that Regulation,
- the Commission has made the necessary technical arrangements for the Central Unit to begin operations in accordance with the implementing rules adopted under Article 4(7) and Article 12(5) of the Regulation,
- the Regulation shall apply, and Eurodac shall start operations from 15 January 2003 (12.00 UTC).
